Secretary to the Chief/Assistant Chief, Sterile Processing Service under the direction of the Associate Director Nursing/Patient Services ADPNS. The position performs specialized duties supporting the mission of the SLVHCS as it relates to Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). Developing information, identifying interrelationships, and takes actions consistent with objectives of the function or program served. Work is assigned in terms of objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
Duties
Creates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for instruments reprocessed in Southeast Louisiana Veteran Healthcare System (SLVCS)
Maintaining a current knowledge of and answering questions for employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc., and obtaining needed information or decisions from the Chief, Assistant Chief, or Shift Supervisors;
Informing employees of available services and employee activities;
Providing information to the Chief, SPS as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/23/2023.
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized Experience:
Receiving visitors and telephone calls to the office
Scheduling appointments
Coordinating meetings and conferences
Preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication
Preparing travel arrangements
Maintaining files
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment..

Education: Substitution of 4 years above high school. (Transcripts required).

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a post-high school education and experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-5 level? Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortable to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending, carrying of items, such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
