The Information Receptionist provides assistance to Veterans, their families, and visitors at the Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Assigned to the Primary Care Service Line with their primary assignment at the information desk located at the primary visitor entrance to the medical center or any other area where patients and visitors would seek information or standing in strategic locations where patients and visitors need wayfinding assistance.

Duties

Major Duties include but, not limited to: Receives visitors and callers from a wide variety of education, socioeconomic and diverse backgrounds to determine nature of business and directs and/or transfers them to their destination. Communicates effectively in writing with people from a wide variety of education, socioeconomic and diverse backgrounds provide general information about the healthcare system and services. Researches written standards and policies to respond to phone and face-to-face inquires. Identifies situations of an emergent nature so the patient's health and well-being are not jeopardized. Directs visitors to their destination using medical center floor plan and/or information directories including using VISTA and Outlook on a PC. Contacts other services, sections, and/or units throughout the medical center to obtain information for visitor or caller. Operates equipment to assist in troubleshooting problems for patients, answering questions, and supporting the telehealth team. Assists visitors or patients with wheelchair requests and/or escort request to appointments or clinics. Documents the issuance of wheelchairs to Veterans and visitors for temporary use. Determines potential opportunities for improvement and provide the information to the appropriate person/section. Performs clerical duties to include determining the distribution of items to units, retrieval of mail, folding letters, and other light errands. Operates government vehicles, to include passenger cars and vans, and large parking lot shuttle carts. Establishes and maintains inventory of all assigned computers and My Healthe Vet (MHV). Assists Veterans with signing into MHV and provide appropriate documents for the release of information to ensure safety and security when utilizing the website. Assists with the distribution of information/education regarding various VA programs like My HealthleVet, Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) recreation programs, and VIP visits and programs. Assists Veterans in utilization of kiosks for patient check-in, updating patient information, and troubleshooting system issues. Operates web-based software for MHV and other databases for VISN office. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/16/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: The qualifications for this position must be met by the closing date of the announcement. To qualify for the position, you must possess the following: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: For GS-04, One (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to interpret reference material, provide information to customers, and work well with others. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: For GS-04: Two (2) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Transcripts Required) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: For GS-04: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirement of the GS-04 level. Determination is made by calculating the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then adding the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. (e.g. 6 months of qualifying experience meets 50% of required and 1 year of education meets 50% of required for a total of 100%). (Transcripts Required) You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communications Computer Skills Analytical Thinking Integrity/Honesty Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The regular and recurring work of the position involves sitting, standing and walking as much as 50% of the time. There may be the pushing of wheelchairs, carrying of light items such as papers and books. This position requires working outdoors and operating government vehicles, to include passenger cars, vans, and large parking lot shuttle carts.
