This position is located within the Education Service at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System in Las Vegas, NV. The Training Instructor plans, organizes, directs, evaluates and maintains the educational programs of the medical center impacting operations and the healthcare environment.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Determining training needs by conferring with Health Care Group Leaders, conducting surveys, reviewing reports, or interviewing employees. Assists in the evaluation of needs of the VA facility and services through a yearly needs assessment. Makes contact with individual healthcare professionals to review suggested needs to determine whether education can resolve the identified problem. Assess training needs of specific groups of employees. Participates in VISN wide assessment and training activities. Oversees programs that impact multiple services and facilities within the medical center and VISN. Provides project management services to education service projects. Reports to the Service Chief, Assistant Director, Associate Director and Director on education project status and performance measures as requested. Active member of facility and VISN committees. Monitors approved education projects, provides technical assistance on substantive educational and administrative programs. Develops cost-effective educational format for meeting high priority needs of healthcare groups. Works with consultants and other healthcare educators and providers to plan educational activities in assigned areas. Selects Subject Matter Experts (SME) to develop content and training material with. Develops curriculum using standard adult learning principles. Schedules and markets on-going educational activities; uses a calendar format, e-list, on demand process. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level, you must meet one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; and work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. -OR- EDUCATION: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) -OR- COMBINATION: Have equivalent combinations of graduate education and specialized experience (as described above) to meet the requirements.
