This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 16), Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Medical Service, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Duties

Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Serves as the Clinical Informatics Coordinator for Medical Service, coordinating the business process and software functions.
Ensures the business process is in place to support the implementation of new and updated information technology systems.
Provides oversight for a variety of software programs integral to the overall administration, equipment packages, and operations of medical service.
Ensures Office of Information & Technology assigns appropriate access to terminal and file codes for the purpose of controlling access to the patient and medical records.
Analyzes, evaluates and makes recommendations on major aspects of all assigned VISTA and commercial off the shelf computer packages.
Controls critical applications, (i.e. Clinical Procedures (CP), Home Oxygen, Oncology/OncoTrax, and Clinical Case Registries); reviewing all software upgrades for medical service programs within VISTA.
Provides training for individual users on daily operational tasks and trains new users, which consists of development and presentation of both formal lectures and on-the-job sessions to those employees who will be entering, transmitting and reviewing data.
Coordinates training for service staff in clinical and functional areas for various information technology VISTA packages.
Ensures that each medical service employee has access to a workstation with appropriately functioning IT equipment to perform their job.
Maintains the service share drive permissions and monitors content control for inappropriate storage.
Assists with the preparation and implementation of the contingency plans for IT system failure specifically addressing manual system backup plans addressing how day to day business will be conducted for long and short-term outages.
Evaluates and makes recommendations on planned or proposed clinical software applications or administrative policies to support the implementation or modification.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

In order to qualify for this position, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-5, in the federal service. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: experience using medical software packages to track patient consults, encounters, and visits; training clinical and administrative staff to use medical software packages; assisting users with gaining access to computer software; and maintaining an online company or department Shared drive, to include regulating permissions and access.
