About the Position: Serves as a Supervisory Security Guard for the protection of government personnel, property, and technologies located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
This position is restricted to persons entitled to Veterans Preference. If there are no Veterans Preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered.
Duties
Serves as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision over the activities of the security guard force.
Responsible for performing a diverse range protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors.
Plans and coordinates the activities of a security guard force shift, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards and enforcement of federal state, and local laws.
Responsible for protection of government and personal property; control of access of personnel and vehicles to the installation.
Responsible for support of the implementation of emergency plans; and patrolling of restricted and limited access areas.
Performs daily post checks of all post/personnel included in the security guard force areas of responsibilities.
Responsible for assisting with suppression of riots; demonstrations and disorders; traffic and crowd control.
Supervises necessary training for security guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage, and other organized subversive actions.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
Makes personnel adjustments to reflect workload revisions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Secret security clearance.
- Must submit to a pre-employment physical and maintain a level of physical fitness.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter.
- This position has been designated as Mission Essential; in the event of severe weather conditions that result in the installation being closed for normal business operations, you are still required to report for or remain on duty.
- The position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires shift work and rotating shifts.
- This position requires overtime work.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.
- This position has a requirement to carry a firearm and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapon.
- This position requires certification in CPR.
- This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires completion of a supervisory probationary period.
- This position is subject to the requirements of the individual Reliability Program (IRP), in accordance with AR 190-56.
- This position requires successful completion of security guard training.
- May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position requires working both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- This position requires Security Response Capability Training for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: Safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction. Determine fitness and grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrate a need to access the installation. Provide significant support to the overall installation Antiterrorism/ Force Protection (AT/FP) capability by providing the emergency base closure, active shooter response, execution of random antiterrorism measure, physical security emergency response to an all hazards disaster and an active physical deterrent against criminal and terrorist activities targeted against US military installations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
