About the Position: Occupational Health Sciences fosters the prevention of workplace-related injury, disease, and death by providing occupational health and injury prevention services supporting Service Members, civilians, commanders, policy makers, and DHA leadership.
This position is located in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates new to Federal service.
Duties
Plan, conduct, and lead IH surveys and health hazard studies.
Report technical findings and recommendations for control or elimination of hazards in written technical reports.
Provide consultation and problem solving to DHA and DOD Component customers in the area of IH and occupational health (OH) through office-based design reviews and telephone and email communication.
Review and comment on proposed Federal, consensus and DOD standards for their impact on the DOD Component industrial hygiene programs.
Mentor junior personnel on occupational and environmental health and their development.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC) [Formerly: The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)].
Specialized experience is defined as conducting industrial hygiene and health hazard studies; assisting with developing industrial hygiene guidance; and drafting guides, regulations and/or policy letters regarding industrial hygiene and occupational health. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
