You will serve as a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR in the STRIKE GROUP TRAINING & ASSESSMENT DIVISION of UNDERSEA WARFARE DEV CEN DET NORFOLK.

Duties

You will lead the development and administration of advanced integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) mission planning. You will serve as a training Instructor and technical advisor. You will provide senior-level oversight of a complex and difficult warfare area. You will conduct classroom instruction, operations center mentoring, pier side practical training, and at -sea scenario-based training. You will develop and present impact analysis reports for training systems describing technical progress including identification and resolution of potential problem areas. You will develop and continually improve training material and competency exams/assessments. You will develop curriculum for the following topics: complex ASW mission planning for Force-Level integrated execution, oceanographic, sonar related acoustics and ASW tactics, Techniques, Procedures (TTPS). You will deliver software upgrades and provide basic on-site maintenance in support of IMAT training systems and tactical decision aids. You will serve as a Technical Advisor and Mentor in support of Fleet, Theater, and Combatant Commanders to include Undersea Warfare (USW) mission preparation and operation execution. You will provide training covering the entire spectrum of integrated USW operations including: in-depth environmental and oceanographic analysis, threat assessment, and USW sensor optimization of tactical unit sensors.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying methods and techniques of instruction of advanced integrated Anti-submarine Warfare (ASW) mission planning. Experience applying skills in Theater/Strike Force/Strike Group ASW simulations to promote tactical team training, individual ASW/sonar operator proficiency, and fundamental understanding of tactical oceanography. Experience applying knowledge of oceanographic modeling, underwater sound propagation and acoustics, sonar theory, ASW sensor optimization, and ASW principles. Experience applying skills in Interactive Multi-sensor Analysis Training (IMAT), Undersea Warfare Decision Support System (USW-DSS), Carrier-based Tactical Support Center (CV-TSC), Scalable Tactical Acoustic Propagation Loss Engine (STAPLE), IMAT explore (ASW computer-based trainer), Composeable Forcenet (CFn), Tactical Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT) Products Program (TAPP), and Sonar Tactical Decision Aid (STDA) to provide continuous development and improvements to training material and competency exams.
