About the Position: This position is within Directorate of Industrial Operations (DIO) at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Duties

Provide a full range of testing/ troubleshooting procedures to a variety of components used in electronic missile systems. Assist senior technicians with the maintenance and repair of missile system test consoles. Provide guidance to journeyman in the test and repair of components used in electronic systems of guided missiles. Perform certified soldering in accordance with current specifications. Operate precision measuring devices. Recommend changes to test procedures when receiving insufficient data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
  • Pre-employment and annual Physical examinations are required.
  • Must be able to lift up 40 lbs.
  • Must be willing to travel (TDY) up to 15% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain a Soldering Certificate within 3 months of employment.
  • Must be willing to accept a Temporary appointment.

Temporary promotions or reassignments may be made permanent without further competition. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 year if candidate is NOT a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. Perform the common duties of overhaul, test, troubleshooting and repairing electronic assemblies and subassemblies of guided missiles and associated ground equipment. Test automatic and semiautomatic missile systems, provide repair to missile consoles, and operate various measuring devices. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - ElectronicsIngenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTrouble shooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Test Equipment: Electronics PHYSICAL EFFORT Work involves standing, bending, stooping, and protracted periods at test consoles. Continuously handles objects weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS Normally works in well lighted, heated and ventilated shop area. Subject to cuts, bruises, burns, and shock caused by handling equipment, soldering irons, high voltage energy, radiation, etc.
