This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Director of Operational Logistics, Naval Engineering Department/Industrial Production Facility, Portsmouth, VA.

Duties

As an Electrical Worker, this position performs electrician work in support of the US Coast Guard (USCG), Naval Engineering Support Unit, Industrial Operations Division, which involves the repair, alteration, modification, testing, installation and checking of all types of electrical equipment and evaluating circuitry required to power the equipment of USCG shore and ship units. This position is at Facilities Engineering at Base Portsmouth.Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignment include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:  1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision 2. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment3. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices4. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)5. Ability To Use Electrical Drawings6. Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) 7. Trouble shooting (electrical)National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
