NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities. The function of OGC is to provide legal advice and assistance to the NEH Chair and other officials on a variety of legal matters concerning the activities of NEH.
Duties
Completes various legal research and writing projects for OGC attorneys on questions of high importance and broad application.
Coordinates the Senate confirmation process for nominees to the National Council on the Humanities and official appointment matters following confirmation, including serving as liaison between OGC and the White House nominations office and the Senate HELP Committee.
Evaluates nominees' financial disclosure forms and prepares ethics agreements based on OGE guidelines.
Drafts legal documents regarding a wide variety of legal matters, including persuasive and analytical documents (such as correspondence, opinions, and memoranda) as well as legal instruments (such as agreements and Federal Register notices), ethics agreements, FOIA response letters.
Coordinates interagency responses with other federal agencies.
Assists the General Counsel in his capacity as Secretary to the National Council on the Humanities.
Leads OGC's preparations for each meeting of the National Council on the Humanities, including preparing agenda books and other meeting materials.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
At the GS-12 level: Qualified candidates must possess:1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: Applying principles, concepts, methods of legal research, and reference sources to be able to perform legal research; determining the relevance of court decisions, procedural requirements, and legal data submitted to the agency; reviewing cases related to FOIA, FACA, and the Ethics in Government Act; Analyze and assess legal documents submitted to the agency, including financial disclosure in support of the agency's conflict of interest policies, and FOIA responsive records.
