In this position, you will provide responsive cyberspace capabilities for Team Eglin and the Warfighter. Responsible for performing professional cyber networking infrastructure planning, maintenance, and installation support of 96th Test Wing and Team Eglin units.

Working independently, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, or as a team leader of other scientists, engineers and programmers, designs, develops and/or extensively modifies software as required for the test and evaluation of systems materiel based on knowledge of state-of-the-art hardware developments and software capabilities. Carries out software maintenance assignments for in house applications. Serves as advisor and consultant to personnel within the Eglin complex for software problems. Configuration control and deployment. Perform security verification (STIGs) and Continuous improvement of network (Performance tuning). Develop and improve the networking environment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain IAT Level II Information Assurance Certification
  • This position may be required to work other than normal duty hours and may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • The performance of the duties of this position requires a full, four-year curriculum in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors degree in computer science or closely related field as specified in the OPM.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions located here. This series includes professional positions which primarily involve the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer systems. The primary requirements of the work are (a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; (b) specialized knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of systems having the ability to transform information, and of broad areas of applications of computing which have common structures, processes, and techniques; and (c) knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes ability to advise on the evaluation and implementation of computer programs across a variety of functional areas; a demonstrated and thorough knowledge of computer sciences, IT systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging IT methods and principles. Experience with Cisco and Juniper Networking highly desired Experience with Network automation\programming a plus Experience with Linux Operating Systems desired KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Mastery of computer science, software engineering, mathematics, and computer systems technologies. 2. Vast knowledge of computer network architectures, scientific software methodologies and practices, date a storage, computer systems administration, and computer/network/information security. 3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures as they apply to an office environment. 4. Ability and extensive experience in planning, organizing, and performing the functions required of a computer scientist. 5. Extensive experience in use and maintenance of a vast number of computer system, equipment, and software; analyzing computer networks, software, and hardware problems and development of effective and economical solutions; and experience in assisting with training of users on new computer systems, processes. 6. Superb communicative skills to allow for development of study analysis reports, systems modification guidelines, briefings and other staff level correspondence and ability to brief senior staff members in all aspects of computer science problem areas.

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
