About the Position: Serves as a Training Instructor responsible for instructing military students, DoD, and contractor personnel on procedures for operating the Shadow RQ-7 Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV).

Duties

Complete training phases/blocks on the Ground Control Station (GCS) and associated equipment for the Shadow RQ-7 TUAS operational specifics, capabilities and limitations. Provide instruction on Shadow unmanned aircraft system, to include mission planning, mission sensor/payload operations, launching, remotely piloting, and recovering the aerial vehicle. Coordinate flight schedules, airspace, resources, frequency management, and other aspects off light operations. Plans, manages and is responsible for the execution of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) ground, simulation and flight operations on a daily basis. Coordinates airspace clearances, flight line operations and maintenance support. Deconflicts UAS and communications frequencies relating to the mission. Presents formal instruction to support organization approved Programs of Instruction (POI) through lecture, conference, demonstration, and practical exercises where lifting of up to 50 lbs with assistance is required. Performs necessary on-site maintenance on classroom systems to ensure their continual availability for student use.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (ENTNAC/NAC/NACI/BI REQUIRED).
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • In accordance with AR 95-1, Flight Regulations, must complete the minimum flying hour, approved aircrew training task iteration, and evaluation requirements as determined by the commander/hiring authority based on assigned duties.
  • Must complete semi-annual flight hour requirements: 6 hours live (2 hours in each position, Aircraft Operator/Payload Operator); 12 hours simulation (4 hours in each position, Aircraft Operator/Payload Operator)
  • Requires selectee to work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.
  • May be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Must complete the Student Cadre Training Course, the Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course, the Instructor Operator Course and obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment Class IV Flight Physical.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as counseling and education. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Aviation OperationsInstructional Delivery and Learner DevelopmentManages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
