About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the Medical Readiness Command, West (previously Regional Health Command, Central) Plans, Operations, and Readiness G-3, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Duties

Serve as the Regional Security Officer and Consultant. Provide consultative and accurate security guidance to subordinate organization commanders and the healthcare facilities primary security officials. Evaluate security program resources within the region and initiates programming, budgeting and manpower actions to address requirements. Advise on security principles, philosophy, techniques and regulatory requirements to resolve complex integration issues of security policy and procedures of the various programs. Establish oversight policy, practices and metrics that reflect the security posture of supported medical and dental facilities within the region.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • May be required to work on rotating shifts during emergencies or training exercises.
  • Subject to 24-hour recall to perform emergency response duties. This may include tour(s) of duty on weekends or nights to support training for or during actual emergency operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance based on an SSBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI) security clearance.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationSecuritySecurity Education, Training and Awareness Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
