About the Position: Serves as Chief of the Data Signature Analysis Branch (DSAB), Geospatial Research Laboratory. This is a Supervisory Interdisciplinary position which may be filled under any of the listed Job Family Series.

Duties

Chief of the Data Signature Analysis Branch (DSAB) administers and executes Research and Development to maintain a healthy program of work for the Branch. Programming and budgetary responsibilities, oversight of contracted research and services, and personnel administration. Reviews study proposals, progress reports, and final products for technical quality, consistency, and adequacy. Monitors work operations to identify and eliminate barriers and bottlenecks to improve business practices and promote team building. Exercises significant responsibilities in advising higher ranked management officials in developing overall goals and objectives. Hears and resolves group grievances or serious employee complaints. Makes decisions on training needs and training requests of branch members. Approves expenses such as small purchases, contract actions, and employee travel. Conduct performance appraisals and other personnel management responsibilities. Maintain individual development plans for branch members. Mentor staff for technical and management positions. Leads recruitment efforts for the branch. Makes decisions involving the research and development of techniques, equipment, and systems used for creating and maintaining spatial data bases from remotely sensed imagery. Supports critical research supporting the priorities set forth by Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology, the Army Futures Command, Program Executive Offices, Army Capability Managers, and TRADOC Proponent Offices. Research includes conducting remote sensing and Geoinformatics research integrated into the domains of terrain analysis, data exploitation, and network-based research to develop analysis techniques in support of military and civil works missions. Timely acquisition, fusing, analysis, display, and dissemination of remotely sensed multi-sourced information depicting imagery, features, elevation, and other information essential to accurately describe the land warrior battle space. The development of geographic information software that enables reliable, efficient, and secure information management, interoperability and accessibility for various user communities operating globally, each with different needs is a major focus. Supports the research and development of novel geospatial technologies to exploit nontraditional geospatial data sources and services.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
