This is a Pathways Internship Program Appointment designed to serve as a developmental experience in conjunction with formal education, to provide the Pathways Intern with the knowledge, skills, and abilities for employment in the civil service career.
The Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students.
Duties
The incumbent works with senior IT Specialists within the designated program area.
Translates system or application data metrics and concepts into language that is meaningful to many audiences, including business and technical leaders and individual contributors.
Assists in conducting IT research, evaluations, studies, and analyses and provides staff support for the implementation.
Reviews incoming communication and disseminates to the supervisor and other staff members as appropriate; and replies to general inquiries and routine actions.
Utilizes a variety of office programs, application, tools, and system to generate decisional information (e.g., reports, charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations; metrics and vetted data analytics)
Composes draft or prepares in final form documents for managements review.
Requirements

- Must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement
- Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half-to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution)
- Required to provide proof of continued enrollment and maintain a good academic standing (as defined by the educational institution) throughout the internship program
Qualifications
Pathways Internship Program Eligibility
The Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students. Program participants may be appointed to any grade level for which they qualify. Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified.
GS-7 Student Trainee (Information Technology): Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: planning and delivery of IT Customer support services; resolving customer related technical software and hardware problems in accordance with established policies and procedure; assists users in resolving technical computer problems and malfunctions; provides technical support to users for computer software; installs new software, versions, and updates; adapts, configures and tests computer software.
OR
Successfully completed (1) year of graduate education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Must submit copy of transcripts);
OR
Successfully completed a Bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management with one of the following: I graduated with at least an overall GPA of 2.95, or I graduated with at least a 3.45 GPA in my major or during the last two years of college; or I graduated in the top third of my class; or I have been a member of a national scholastic honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. OR
Possess a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position (Must submit copy of transcripts).
In addition to meeting the above minimum qualification requirement, you must meet the Pathways Internship Program Eligibility requirements: you must be a current student in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Applicants must meet the definition of a "Student" at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of the appointment. Student is defined as: an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled). The Pathways Internship Program is open to all eligible students regardless of age, including older individuals and veterans who are students.
All Education must be accredited by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) ATTENTION VETERANS: A veteran, as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108, who due to military service obligation, was precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. In no event, however, may the individual's eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
