About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Serves as an Electronics Technician by maintaining, repairing, and modifying electronic communications and intrusion detection systems where established criteria and technical precedents are not always available. Incumbent is responsible for the development, review, design, and integration of electronic systems as they apply to physical security, intrusion detection, card access, computer, video, and photo-imaging. Provides advice and guidance to security staff, management officials and other (ICIDS) Installation Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System users within the installation on the inter-operability and maintenance of ICIDS applications. Performs administrative duties on the security console as described in the Installation Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System (ICIDS) manual, security policies and guidelines, and applicable Government regulations. Installs, tests, repairs/maintains, and removes (COSIDS) Commercial Off the Shelf Intrusion Detection Systems, ICIDS, (CCTV) Closed Circuit TV, and other security equipment and components. Performs all phases of operational maintenance work, including troubleshooting, installing, and testing of conventional components, and adapting or redesigning such components to accomplish the organization's communications mission.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • The incumbent of this position will be in an on-call status and expected to report for duty within two hours, if requested.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) Basic electrician experience in systems trouble shooting and maintenance; (2) experience in integrated commercial alarm systems in accordance with codes, such as, the United Facilities Codes (UFC); (3) experience in commercial alarm system management and reporting requirements; and (4) experience in the service and maintenance of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), such as, replacing/maintaining CCTV hardware, server programing and downloading applicable software to server, anticipating trends in new camera technology and incorporating new hardware into existing systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7).
