About the Position: This position conducts investigations to apprehend or detain person committing crimes against persons and property.

Duties
Develop and follow leads, take statements, and gather information and facts.
Identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial.
Provide investigation services for violations of Federal, state, county and DA statues, laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
Conduct complete investigations of alleged criminal violations including theft, assault, shoplifting, child abuse, child neglect, adultery unlawful entry, juvenile misconduct or any other types of criminal violations.
Use special techniques and equipment to collect and preserve fragile or minute evidence.
Schedule and participate in raids with military, police, local civilian police, CID or other agencies.
Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc.
Requirements
- Must attend the United States Army Military Police Investigator Course within 12 months of hire date.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent must successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions including weapons qualifications, first aid CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Position requires a pre-employment medical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical and mental health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test IAW AR 190-56, Chapter 2.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security. An assessment of suitability and character is required annually.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and/or maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene.
- Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Duties requires frequent reaching, bending, stooping, walking, standing and running. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry persons (e.g., accident/crime victims, hostile suspects, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirement described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes which includes (1) applying law enforcement investigative procedures and methods to collect and preserve crime scene evidence, (2) interviewing suspects/witnesses/victims of crimes and (3) analyzing facts to identify suspects or develop case information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
*All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements. Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
