About the Position: The Directorate of Public Works (DPW) provides infrastructure, engineering resources, housing and facility management support and services incorporating sustainable development. It's DPW's mission to ensure the long-term viability of the installation's ability to support the military commanders and joint base community, advancing environmental stewardship, community relations and quality of life.

Duties

Operate snow removal equipment with fixed and power attachments. Diagnose and test equipment to determine cause of failures. Perform inspections on major assemblies and subassemblies removed from commercial, tactical special purpose equipment and heavy construction equipment. Perform grade work using track loader and grader. Ability to use a backhoe and excavating equipment to repair underground utilities such as water and sewer.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a valid State of Maryland or equivalent State Class B Commercial Driver?s License at time of application
  • This position is part of the Army Drug Testing Program
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination
  • This position has requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch and work in awkward and cramped positions when working in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places, and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electric shock, broken bones and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles and other equipment as required. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment.
