This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Performs various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on boiler, auxiliary, and pollution control equipment
Examines and troubleshoots complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and general industrial machinery.
Uses various test equipment and measuring devices, such as alignment scopes, micrometers, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers.
Disassembles, repairs, and rebuilds component parts of general industrial machinery and equipment.
Installs, tests, repairs or replaces new and existing electrical circuits and equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess (or obtain within 9 months) and maintain at a minimum a valid Grade 3 Maryland Board Stationary Engineer license.
- Must possess (or obtain within 9 months) and maintain a valid State of Maryland NOX Reduction Training Certification.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual medical surveillance thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires a Background Security Investigation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Using various test equipment and measuring devices, such as alignment scopes, micrometers, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers. -- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is required in walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working off scaffolds, ladders and in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Physical effort is required in lifting, positioning, carrying, parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds and occasionally more than 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. Subject to electrical shocks and burns, cuts and abrasions, abnormal heat and cold, fumes, burns from hot water and steam lines and exposed to corrosive chemicals, disagreeable odors and danger of infection. May be required to work in both non-permit and permit required confined spaces and implement proper rescue and entry techniques.
