This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Uses templates or patterns as guides in laying out and cutting materials from a variety of sheet metal stocks, including monel metal, stainless steel, galvanized steel, brass, copper, aluminum alloys, and perforated or expanded metals, etc. Assembles and fastens fabricated parts by installing bolts, rivets, screws and/or seaming, soldering, and spot welding. Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities. Performs routine maintenance, overhaul, and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices such as mortise rim key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks. Loads, unloads, separates, stacks, and carries materials, supplies, and packages weighing from 80 to 100 pounds (36 to 45 kilograms) or more.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Mechanic (MVO/CP/PNT/LK) WS-4749-10 without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Employee frequently works from stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places, and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to temperature extremes, drafts, dust, and dirt. Worker may be exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electric shock, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves, eye goggles, and other equipment as required. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment.
