The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision for employees assigned to the T-1 MSS/PE with responsibility for planning, supervising and directing all the
work of the unit which includes emergency, urgent, and routine work order response, and recurring maintenance for all T-1 aircraft within the Maintenance area.

- Work experience in T-1 aircraft maintenance is required; this is a second level supervisory position.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. Government driver's license.
- The employee may be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc. Subject to call-back and recall in emergencies and during readiness exercises.
- Physical Demands: Performance of duties may require working in strained positions from ladders and scaffolds, constant standing, kneeling, bending, stretching, and stooping over units while performing maintenance.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 85 pounds is required. Uses hoists, holders, pulleys, etc., to handle heavy parts and equipment in checking or providing technical instructions. Normal color vision is required.
- Working Conditions: Subject to exposure to grease, oil, fuel, battery acid, cleaning solvents, slippery surfaces, high pressure air, engine noise and the possibility of receiving electrical shocks.
- Subject to high noise levels from working on the flight line and/or from air compressors, high velocity air flow, and aircraft, jet and gas turbine engines.
- Occasionally required to work outside on top of tall structures, in drafty attic spaces or in cramped areas. Uncomfortable face masks and protective clothing may be worn when working on certain equipment.
- The employee may be required to obtain an appropriate security clearance.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opp011unity/Equal Employment Treatment.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised.
4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications.
5. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
