Serves as the Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) Rover Program Lead Engineer for the Program Technical Integration Branch at Johnson Space Center. Managing space rover systems and/or payloads, including design and operational requirements definition, hardware and/or software development, testing, verification, safety, integration, certification, and operations. The work may vary depending on the Center's role and responsibility to the mission.

Duties

Serves as Extra Vehicular Activity and Human Mobility Program (EHP) Program Lead Engineer (PLE) for Rovers and leading technical integration of Engineering resources for Lunar Terrain Vehicle and Pressurized Rover. Supports the EHP Program Chief Engineer (PCE) in the execution of the Engineering Technical Authority for internal compatibility and adherence to the policies and standards of the Directorate, Program Office, Center and Agency. Serves as the engineering prime contact for EHP Rover work; responsible for technical integration, planning, and establishment of designs, development, testing, evaluation, operation and maintenance of proposed technology, equipment, or systems. Assigns EHP Rover tasks to Divisions and coordinates efforts across the engineering system managers; advises on policy/requirements; conducts engineering investigations to support projects; proactively identifies and mitigates problems and issues. Supports system managers and technical leads from engineering with mission integration, cargo integration, and related flight production scheduling activities in accordance with flight requirements, payloads commitments, and operational constraints. Supports boards and reviews as the principle engineering representative for EHP Rovers; supports associated panels and working groups.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Performing system engineering methods and techniques to solve engineering problems associated with spacecraft; Participating in teams with engineering technical authority as applied to programs and projects; Leading multidisciplinary teams and engineers to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical solutions and to reduce technical risk. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
