These positions are in the Office of a Service Chief in the Nursing Department (ND), Clinical Center (CC), in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The positions report to and directly support all aspects of the work of the Service Chief. The positions oversee a broad program of nursing practice development and educational activities directed toward professional development of clinical research nurses and other staff members in the NIH Clinical Center Nursing Department.

Duties

The vision for nursing at the CC is to be the premier Nursing Department where the world's best clinical research nurses provide expert patient care, generate new knowledge, and develop innovative practices to improve patient outcomes. The Service Educators report to a Service Chief and promote quality, evidence-based specialty nursing education and training initiatives for the CCND Service. The ideal candidate will possess 3-5 years of recent clinical specialty experience, previous education/teaching experience, BLS, Master's Degree in Nursing Education, Leadership Allied Health, or another relevant field. Professional Board certification clinical specialty or staff development preferred. These GS-13 Nurse (Educator) opportunities are available in the following clinical specialty areas: Critical Care Behavioral Health Medical Surgical Specialties Perioperative As a GS-0610-13 Nurse (Educator) your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Planning, directing, executing, and evaluating a broad program of nursing professional and educational activities directed toward professional development of nursing staff and leadership at the Clinical Center and for the local, national and international nursing community. Collaborating with nursing management teams to assure educational programming is provided to multilevel professional, administrative, technical and clinical workforce in the Clinical Center. Designing, implementing and evaluating learning experiences for all staff levels to acquire, maintain, or increase their knowledge and competence using a variety of resources and teaching methods to facilitate learning. Monitoring educational issues and developments nationwide that affects professional nursing in general and the specific areas of nurse education. Coordinating the implementation of programs, evaluating short- and long-term outcomes and disseminating information. Acting as an expert resource on nursing education issues. Providing consultation, guidance and assistance within the agency and to individuals, groups and organizations. Developing standards, policies, procedures and guidelines as appropriate for the education program. Reviewing the education program for continuing education credit from professional organizations. Monitoring, guiding and evaluating the program and revising as necessary to assure consistency and compliance with current educational practice, agency goals, current trends and issues.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements: Education Requirement:In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Educator), GS-0610, you must: Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. License: Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Planning, directing, executing and evaluating educational activities directed toward professional development of nursing staff; Designing, implementing and evaluating learning experiences for all staff levels to acquire, maintain, or increase their nursing knowledge and competence; Coordinating, overseeing, and evaluating unit level preceptor programs; Collaborating in the design and implementation of learning needs assessment tools for a unit and specific programs of care; determining the resources needed to implement education program operations; anticipating the impact of educational and nursing trends on programs; and developing policies and procedures for education programs. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
