The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center is recruiting for an Afternoon Architectural Unit Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for preventive maintenance inspections, maintenance, repairs, and in-house modifications associated with the Architectural Shop.
Duties
As the afternoon Architectural Unit Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for preventive maintenance inspections, maintenance, repairs, and in-house modifications associated with the architecture at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. Architectural finishes included are masonry, drywall, roofing, doors, ceilings, flooring, partitions, painting, signage, casework, and other associated architectural systems. The afternoon supervisor, Architectural Unit may take immediate action to correct hazardous conditions which could result in personal injury to individuals and/or damage to equipment, property, or buildings.
The position requires excellent judgment, critical thinking skills, and quick decision making that carefully considers the safety and well-being of patients, staff, subordinates, and government property and assets when selecting courses of action on a wide range of emergent and non-emergent situations.
Incumbent serves as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) tasked with managing multiple maintenance and supply contracts including, but not limited to, Flooring Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, Painting IDIQ, Door Maintenance service contract, and multiple Architectural Renovation projects.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 2:00pm to 10:30pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent must be able to stand for long periods of time, work in confined or awkward/cramped spaces, able to adapt to heat, cold and dampness. Employee must be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds as he/she will be required to frequently carry and set up parts and equipment up to the fifty pounds. Duties actively involve climbing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and walking for prolong periods. Employee works inside, outside and, with proper PPE and safety precautions, is exposed to the elements and various dangerous working conditions. The incumbent may be subjected to adverse conditions such as heat, cold, noise, moisture, electrical or health hazards associated with a health care facility. Incumbent is required to work occasionally outside, and on top of tall buildings and in drafty small spaces.
