The Inpatient Mental Health Coordinator-Social Worker ensures the unit is in compliance with Office of Suicide Prevention and Mental Health (OSPMH) requirements, including implementation of treatment modalities utilizing the recovery model. This position is located at the Jesse Brown V Medical Center, Chicago, IL.
Duties
Duties Include:
Develops and monitors implementation of evidence-based psychotherapy groups as well as family and individual treatment.
Ensures that weekends and holidays have necessary Social Work coverage, and that recovery-oriented groups are provided on those days as per OSPMH requirements.
Schedules and chairs the monthly All-Staff meeting as well as the Recovery Team meetings and coordinates the weekly Community Meeting.
Assists in implementation of tracking procedures for specific data related to Inpatient Mental Health (e.g., involuntary admissions, restriction of rights, involuntary medication administration, episodes of violence), and facilitates the videoconferencing initiative between Cook County Courts and Inpatient Mental Health.
Ensures unit compliance with Measurement Based Care initiatives, serves in the role of unit liaison to the Local Recovery Coordinator, and participates in conference calls related to inpatient recovery model of care.
Develops and monitors volunteer peer initiatives that may include peer-facilitated morning assembly and community meetings and oversees the Council of Veterans (a group of patients who meet with key unit staff and offer suggestions for program improvements).
Responds promptly to new program admissions, ensuring that all required documentation is completed within appropriate timeframes.
Maintains contact at intervals appropriate to the needs of Veterans in her/his care, ensuring that National Mental Health Program performance measures are met, and documents these contacts in the medical record as significant contacts occur.
Provides direct clinical services to Veterans and their families as outlined in the psychosocial assessment and program guidelines, while documenting relevant interventions in the medical record as they occur.
Oversee the supervision of Social Work Interns as outlined by the JBVA Social Work Handbook Program Guidelines.
Performs duties independently, reporting to the Social Worker, Supervisor. .
Provides support to the Supervisory Social Worker, through consultation and monitoring, to assure that data is accurately reported and entered for Decision Support System (DSS) purposes.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
Basic Requirements: The following are the basic requirements and qualifications for appointment as a Social Worker in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English.
Education Requirement - You must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Note: Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree. Transcripts Required
Licensure: Candidates must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Social Worker at the advanced practice level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Copy of Licensure Required.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements as stated above, you must have the following experience to qualify for this GS-13 Social Worker (Program Coordinator) position:
Specialized Experience GS-13: One (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Skill in coordinating nd implementing one or more specialty program(s), across the facility.
Skill in local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care.
Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment if work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action.
Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls, contracts, and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.
Knowledge of organizational structure and impact on program operations.
