Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-14 level you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as evaluating health effects of environmental exposure to radiation; interpreting statistical scientific data; and providing extramural support.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: radiobiology, radiation epidemiology, statistics and radiation physics; 2) Knowledge of scientific risk analysis; 3) Skill in evaluating and interpreting models for estimating radiation risks; 4) Skill in interpreting results from scientific studies on risks of health effects from exposure to radiation; 5) Ability to exercise good judgment in interpreting and adapting scientific information and in developing new approaches or concepts not previously used; 6) Ability to analyze factual information from radiological research, to recognize and evaluate significant factors in investigation, and to draw rational inferences based on statistical data; 7) Skill in the use of statistical software for quantitative analysis; 8) Ability to manage teams, work groups, project timelines as well as contracts, grants, and inter-agency agreements while demonstrating business acumen.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
Physical Scientists: A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Health Physicists: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; OR a combination of education and experience which included courses in the fields included in the described course work; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education comparable to the described coursework.
