This position is in the Technology Controls Program (TCP) within the Division of Examinations and will be located in either Chicago, IL, New York, NY, or Washington, DC. TCP has primary responsibility for oversight and technology examinations of self-regulatory organizations as well as for broker-dealers and investment advisers.

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will:
Supervise and manage staff within the Office including providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit;
Lead an office responsible for IT security audits at SROs, broker-dealers, or investment advisers, conduct assessments of the IT architecture, and prepare written reports of findings;
Plan and conduct analyses of securities exchange operational practices and requirements to evaluate securities industry computer systems requirements and to improve self-regulatory organizations' response to market activity;
Develop policies, guidelines, and standards for the planning, development, integration, implementation, and evaluation of information technology systems and subsystems that meet overall information needs of multiple major organizational units;
Provide expert advice and guidance on broad projects and programs with national impact related to the SEC's Technology Controls program;
Provide authoritative guidance related to the securities industry IT security program; and
Develop long-range plans for IT security systems that anticipate, identify, evaluate, mitigate, and minimize risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.

- PROBATIONARY PERIOD: This appointment may require completion of a two-year supervisory probationary period.

- PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized.
- DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
- This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
- This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.
- Typical Examiner Travel: Travel may be required for an estimated 5 days per month.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.
SK-17: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 level:
Applying IT principles and practices in accomplishing project assignments that include securing, analyzing, and developing conclusions and making recommendations regarding the impact on information technology systems; AND
Leading a team that is responsible for deploying, supporting, or auditing technology solutions employed in the securities markets; AND
Setting priorities and managing expectations among competing goals and objectives; AND
Conducting audits for systems security, networks, and software designs for potential security risks; AND
Representing an organization at briefings, meetings, or conferences
