Duties
The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) is looking for an Engineering Technician to provide drafting services and configuration management support. This position will work within the Reactor Operations and Engineering Group. The Engineering Drafting Technician's duties will include:
For ZT II:
Assist with the development or modification of engineering 2D drawings and 3D part/assembly models based on input from a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in accordance with technical drafting principles, practices, and industry standards.
Organize and facilitate the review and approval process of as-built drawings during the closeout phase of engineering projects using established practices.
Maintain the Drawing File Management System.
Upgrade 2D engineering drawing to computer aided drafting software file formats.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and quality assurance personnel to accomplish team objectives, maintain configuration management, and pursue continuous process improvement.
For ZT III:
Create, develop or modify complex engineering 2D drawings and 3D part/assembly models based on input from a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in accordance with technical drafting principles, practices, and industry standards.
Identify and communicate potential design problems with the design team.
Propose improvements to established practices associated with the development, review, and approval of engineering drawings. Organize and facilitate the review and approval process of as-built drawings during the closeout phase of engineering projects..
Upgrade 2D engineering drawings of parts and assemblies into a 3D modeling file format.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and quality assurance personnel to accomplish team objectives, maintain configuration management, and pursue continuous process improvement.

Qualifications
Basic Requirement:
To qualify at the ZT-II Level: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent at the GS-04 grade level (ZT-I for NIST employees) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes assisting with the development or modification of simple engineering 2D drawings and 3D models utilizing computer aided drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo Parametric) in accordance with technical drafting principles, practices, and industry standards.
OR
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting.

A combination of education and experience
To qualify at the ZT-III Level: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent at the GS-08 grade level (ZT-II for NIST employees) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that includes the development or modification of moderately complex engineering 2D drawings and 3D models utilizing computer aided drafting software in accordance with technical drafting principles, practices, and industry standards. Experience working with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians or organizing, facilitating the review & approval of as-built drawings or drawing file management systems.
