About the Position: As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at Fort Carson, Colorado, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and overseeing the assigned unit safety and health programs, conducting Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), risk assessments, personal protective equipment (PPE) risk assessments of a variety of administrative and light/heavy equipment repair facilities involving high-risk hazards (e.g. highly toxic agents, explosives, etc.).

Duties

Participate in the planning of a comprehensive safety program in support of a military mission involving high-risk hazards, such as highly toxic agents, explosives. Resolve inspection findings, trends, and military-related safety problems. Present safety briefings or training to senior personnel on risk mitigation. Develop instructional materials, such as programs of instruction, lesson plans, and teaching aids in accordance with the systems approach to training method. Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and personal protective equipment (PPE) risk assessments of administrative and light/heavy equipment repair facilities involving high-risk hazards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to complete a pre-employment drug test.
  • Obtain and Maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • Up to 25% Business Travel (TDY).
  • Must have and be able to maintain a valid State Driver's License.
  • Must be able to maintain and obtain a US Govt Driver's license within 30 days of placement into the position.
  • Must be able to obtain a government passport.
  • Selection for assignment to this position requires passing an appropriate physical examination for overseas duty. To include appropriate immunizations.
  • This position is Emergency-Essential (E-E); subject to on-call and irregular work hours. The position is considered essential to support DA's mobilization and wartime mission.
  • May require working weekends and holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of demonstrated specialized experience which includes: developing safety policies to prevent accidents that may result in occupational injury and/or illness or damage to property; conducting studies of accident causal factors to identify methods to mitigate safety hazards; instituting the application of safe practices, principles, and procedures for military training, facilities, exercises, maneuvers or operations; advising subordinate units on safety criteria and control procedures relative to risk assessment and risk management techniques; AND conducting inspections of subordinate units to determine status of compliance with combat, combat support, or combat service support safety requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accident/Mishap and Hazard Investigation and ReportingPolicy DevelopmentSafety and HealthTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
