About the Position: Serves as the Airfield Division & Butts Army Airfield Aviation Safety Officer with responsibility for the development, organization, and execution of the Airfield Division Aviation Accident Prevention Program for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

Duties

Provides technical advice to the Airfield Division Chief, commanders, staff of aviation units, and individual aviators regarding safety policies, practices, and procedures. Disseminates and provides guidance on safety-of-flight, safety alerts, safety-of-use, and safety maintenance messages. Plans and conducts surveys of facilities and operations to evaluate the effectiveness of safety standards and practices. Conducts opening and closing briefings with personnel in charge of facilities and operations to discuss the findings and recommendations. Investigates operational hazard reports submitted to assess the identified hazard and method of correction. Develops material, schedule, coordinate, and conduct safety briefings, safety training classes, and professional development classes. conditions. Initiates and executes educational activities and promote safety awareness. Identifies accident trends and analyze information to provide technical reports that outline risk assessments and control measures to reverse or eliminate adverse trends.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Incumbent must have completed Aviation Safety Officer Course at Fort Rucker or equivalent safety course.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes: advising senior level officials on safety and occupational health program implementation and regulatory guidance; conducting accident investigations to determine factors, root cause, and/or lessons learned; ensuring compliance with safety standards through inspections; and investigating hazardous situations or operational safety problems to eliminate hazards, identify causes and/or trends in mishaps. This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Aviation Safety Officer Course at Fort Rucker or equivalent safety course.
