Duties

This position administers writer-editor guidance, as the senior subject-matter expert, on all written products of the Office of Trade and related managers, program officials, and leading figures of government. This position starts at a salary of $112,015.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $145,617.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $145,617.00 (GS-13 Step 10). Typical duties include: Writing and editing internal and public facing written products covering a wide variety of topics, which may require a high degree of tact and diplomacy, to ensure the underlying context and message is conveyed accurately. Examining the content of documents and organizing the material structurally in terms of the order of sentences, paragraphs, sections, and findings to improve the presentation. Coordinating proposed changes in approach, emphasis, and presentation directly with the writer to produce the necessary revisions, analyses, and recommendations when documents are unclear and extensive rewriting is needed to achieve a more organized presentation and to achieve communication goals. Maintaining awareness of current government writing and reporting style and format requirements, and working directly with appropriate officials to resolve questions about its content and technical application. Utilizing department executive correspondence handbook and agency style guide with associated templates as the primary reference to review, edit, and rewrite a range of correspondence for clarity and consistency.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Serving as senior subject-matter expert on the grammar, style, and formatting of official agency correspondence. Developing and implementing editorial policies, practices, guidelines, and standards. Assisting staff and action officers in preparing clear, accurate, and concisely written documents representing major management issues addressed to senior civilian executives within the agency. Utilizing methodical analysis of content, organization, and presentation of draft and final documents to ensure they are suitable in terms of coverage, balance, method of expression, presentation and adherence of document objectives. Administering and navigating workflow and folders from start to finish; reviewing incoming correspondence and writing/editing requests, tasking work to appropriate offices and personnel, consolidating materials from various internal organizations and reconciling drafts, and coordinating work in developing effective, accessible formats, as well as illustrations and tabular material to augment the written message. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 07/18/2023. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period. Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) Eligibles: If you have never worked for the federal government, you are not CTAP/ICTAP eligible.
