About the Position:This position is in the Naval Medical Center Office of Occupational Medicine, San Diego, California. San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. Immense Balboa Park is the site of the San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, art studios museums and gardens. A deep harbor is the Home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum, open to the public.
Duties
Document pertinent data in the medical record and on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed.
Counsel patients regarding test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards.
Responsible for the safe and effective operation of medical equipment and contribute to a safe working environment.
Verify and order all indicated laboratory studies, x-rays, immunizations, and other ancillary tests as appropriate.
Triage patients as they arrive, identifying those whose examinations/evaluations will need to be expedited.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes perform supporting duties under close supervision of a health care personnel in any of the following: costumer service; maintaining files and using an automated system to schedule/reschedule appointments.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Health Technician, Health Care in audiology, speech pathology, and other related Health Technician sciences.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages
GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with health care personnel with limited supervision in the following assist with patient check-in scheduling/rescheduling appointment as needed and entering information in an automated medical information system. Screen and interview patients to obtain medical history.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes review patients' medical histories; input medical information in various automated systems. Take patients' vital signs, conduct occupational health interviews and perform tests such as audiograms, spirometry, vision screening, electrocardiograms.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education
