This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Training (TR), Buildings and Facility Management Unit (TRAB).
This position(s) primary purpose is responsible for the overall management, control, coordination and execution of the DEA Training Academy's environmental compliance program to include receipt, storage, handling, and treatment/disposal of various types of hazardous/solid waste and related material.

As an Environmental Protection Specialist, your typical work assignments may include:
Responsible for the overall management, control, coordination and execution of the DEA Training Academy's environmental compliance program.
Ensuring the DEA Training Academy buildings and other locations fully complies with applicable Federal, State and Local environmental protection laws and regulations.
Advocating for assigned issues pertaining to the Academy program.
Reviewing and providing recommendations for policies, directives, regulations, and guidance from DOJ, USEPA, DEA, and state and local environmental agencies to determine impacts on activities.
Conducting on-site visits to evaluate effectiveness of DEA's environmental programs.
Monitoring accomplishment of various DEA environmental programs in terms of results shown in environmental briefings, reports, effectiveness, and timeliness of accomplishments.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent at the GS-12 Federal grade level: 1) Serving as an Environmental Protection Specialist advising and training managers/supervisors with technical expertise on various environmental law and regulations applicable to Training facility operations and processes; 2) Ensuring that workplaces properly meet the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws and other federal and local Environmental Protection (EP) requirements; 3) Applying regulations, standards and sound Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices to detect hazardous operations/conditions; 4) Preparing, updating and maintaining plans, reports, records outlining environmental policy.
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
