About the Position: This position is located at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center (formerly known as Fort Belvoir Community Hospital) in the Director for Surgery, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic Clinic. The position requires incumbent to perform a combination of technical and administrative tasks related to the treatment and care of patients.

Duties
Serve as Orthopedic Technologist working independently and as a team member, providing extensive assistance to the Orthopedic Surgeons and other health care providers for a musculoskeletal clinics.
Screen patient charts and makes necessary preparations for orthopedic provider.
Draw up parenteral medications such as steroid injections and local anesthetics.
Independently apply full range of orthotics, functional braces and cast, including routine casting of upper/lower extremities, to the most intricate brace case, PTB, Ulna Gutter Cast, Munster casts, Cobra Casts, Hip Spica, Riser and club feet.
Apply sterile dressing for wounds, fractures and burns.
Develop orthotic devices for patients with disabilities and amputees.
Assist orthopedic surgeons in the operating room by anticipating requirements and providing specialized equipment that may be needed for procedures.
Instruct other healthcare personnel on applying, adjusting and removing casts, splints, and orthopedic braces and orthotics traction devices.
Use various computer programs to generate report and patient statistics.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing orthopedic technical and administrative functions in a hospital or clinic environment i.e., assisting orthopedic surgeons in the care of patients with injuries or diseases of the musculoskeletal system; applying, adjusting and/or removing cases, splints, and orthopedic braces and orthotics; triaging patients and/or families in person or telephonically regarding orthopedic care; and using various automated systems to generate reports, patient statistics, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
