You will serve as a Shipyard Production Superintendent in the Mechanical Shop, Production Resources Department, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.

Duties

You will manage, direct, monitor, interpret, and seek resolution on all matters pertaining to the effective planning, conduct, and cost effectiveness of the shop's daily efforts. You will maintain adequate numbers of personnel and distribute these resources within the department and throughout the waterfront to support daily shipyard efforts and goals. You will be responsible for the technical and administrative direction of all personnel and functions encompassed by the shop's programs. You will promote and administer management programs including a lifting and handling accident prevention program throughout the shop. You will enforce compliance with technical requirements contained in nuclear and non-nuclear work procedures. You will conduct training of department personnel to ensure needed skills and qualifications are available for assignment. You will administer EEO policies and communicate support of these policies to subordinates.

  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with all phases of nuclear and non-nuclear surface or subsurface ship repair and overhaul. Experience managing various levels of Shop Supervisors, Shipyard work operations, trades and shop practices, and personnel. Experience with submarine and nuclear work and procedures and project management for shipyard work. Experience managing labor and non-labor resources efficiently and economically.
