Duties
The United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida (MDFL), is seeking an experienced attorney interested in working in our Civil Division, Jacksonville, Florida. The MDFL is headquartered in Tampa and has branch offices in Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Myers and Ocala. As needed, additional positions can be filled from this announcement for any of our five (5) offices.
The candidate selected for this vacancy will be responsible for defensive tort and employment discrimination arenas. The position offers a dynamic civil practice with a challenging mix of cases, and represents a great opportunity for an attorney seeking greater autonomy and litigation experience. The defensive tort docket includes catastrophic medical malpractice cases and other significant defensive Federal Tort Claims Act litigation. The employment discrimination docket presents an array of challenging cases that yields significant trial experience, including jury trials, to civil AUSAs. Civil AUSAs enjoy a high degree of camaraderie in a cohesive, self-supporting work environment.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
- Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should have excellent academic credentials and some litigation experience, preferably at least 3 years. Applicants also should be computer literate, possess superior oral and written communication skills, have strong character and excellent interpersonal skills, have the capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment, and have a strong commitment to public service.
