Duties

You will serve as a General Attorney at the Naval Office of the Judge Advocate General (OJAG), Commander Naval Legal Service Command in Jacksonville, FL You will serve as an Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Americans with Disabilities Act Legal Assistance Attorney You will provide legal advice and representation to active duty DON Sailors and their families who are enrolled in the DON Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) You will provide expert advice and legal representation to active duty DON EFMP Sailors and their families seeking special educational and disabilities benefits support from federal, state, and local resources for the exceptional family member. You will advise families of their rights of the various disability statutes and their procedural safeguards You will advocate procedural and substantive issues under applicable federal disability laws and regulations. You will advocate before schools and administrative forums to include due process hearings/proceedings, and when necessary, within the respective state and federal courts You will perform Case Intake, Evaluation, and Counsel You will provide Administrative Advocacy and Litigation You will perform Collaboration and Outreach duties You will collaborate with the other to develop IDEA and ADA targeted legal training using Navy Justice School or Defense Collaboration Service platforms

• You must be able to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida within six (6) months of hiring
• You may be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period
• You may be required to perform occasional travel for training, case litigation support, and site visits

Qualifications

Your application must show that you meet the following: 1.) You are a member in good standing of the bar of the State of Florida and admitted to practice before the highest court of the State of Florida and able to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida within six (6) months of hiring. 2.) You possess at least one (1) year of demonstrated litigation experience in Disability laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which includes sections 504 and 508. Incumbent should have a strong interest to practice education law with an emphasis on special education. An incumbent with experience practicing before administrative bodies is highly desirable. 3) You have a minimum of one year of post-law-school legal litigation experience in the practice of IDEA or ADA Upon selection the following documents will be requested: An official transcript of your law school record together with an official statement of your relative standing in your class. However, if you has been a member of the Bar for 5 years or more, the transcript requirement may be waived. An official statement that your fitness to practice law or your conduct as an attorney have never been challenged.
