Duties

You will serve as a Supervisory Legal Assistance Attorney-Advisor (General) at the Office of the Judge Advocate General (OJAG), Commander Naval Legal Service Command in Jacksonville, FL You will provide consultation, advice, assistance, and representation to active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces and their dependents; retired members of the US Armed Forces and their dependents; and others entitled parties. You will provide Legal Assistance will cover the entire spectrum of legal issues. You will most handle Wills and Estates, Landlord-Tenant issues, Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act, Real Property, Civil Suits, Indebtedness, Adoptions, Name Changes, Domestic Relations, Civilian Criminal matters, Immigration-Naturalization. You will assist eligible personnel with legal problems occasioned by deployment. You will provide legal advice involving complex/difficult questions of fact and law drafting detailed legal opinions/ memoranda with summations and analysis with proper citation. You will provide exceptional professional expertise, depth of knowledge, and ability to independently render legal analysis and opinions on complex matters. You will supervise and manage a staff of attorneys and support staff You will be responsible for the planning, management, operation, supervision, and quality of work of Branch Legal Assistance Office

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You must possess a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree
  • You must be a member in good standing of the bar of the State of Florida and admitted to practice before the highest court of the State of Florida
  • You must be able to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida within six (6) months of hiring
  • You may be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period
  • You may be required to perform occasional travel

Qualifications

Your application must show that you meet the following: 1.) You are a member in good standing of the bar of the State of Florida and admitted to practice before the highest court of the State of Florida and able to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida within six (6) months of hiring. 2) You must possess a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree 3) You must have post law school legal experience as either a military judge advocate or in private practice providing representation concerning civil law matters 4.) You must have experience performing the following: A) Using civil litigation experience to provide in-court representation to clients who warrant such service, B) Providing concise, well-reasoned legal advice and opinions both verbally and in writing C) Overseeing, supervising, and/or managing junior attorneys and legal support staff D) Training and/or mentoring junior attorneys or legal support staff E) Overseeing or assisting in the management of an office Upon selection the following documents will be requested: An official transcript of your law school record together with an official statement of your relative standing in your class. However, if you has been a member of the Bar for 5 years or more, the transcript requirement may be waived. An official statement that your fitness to practice law or your conduct as an attorney have never been challenged. If either your fitness or conduct has been challenged, an official statement concerning the facts and circumstances together with any explanation that the you may wish to submit.
