The Program Support Assistant provides technical and administrative assistance to the AO/HSS for the Brooklyn Campus Surgical Service of the New York Harbor Healthcare System.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conducts workflow studies of an assigned clock of activities which change periodically due to shifting workload, budgetary fluctuations, changing work processes or functions or reorganizations. Prepares descriptive reports, including coordinates incoming data from a variety of sources. Reviews documents, reports, and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies, and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system.
- Conducts studies of existing directives to detect and eliminate conflict, overlap and duplication. Serves as the central point of information concerning directives resolving any questions or problems that arise. Reviews proposed directives for consistency with established directives and proper distribution. Review documentation files to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (JACHO).
- Assists the AO/HSS in the preparation of the long-range plans based on past and current trends within the service making adjustments to the demands of changing personnel and workload requirements. Studies new office equipment designed to improve or expedite flow of work and recommends accepting or rejecting their use.
- Assists in acting as a liaison between the numerous sub-specialties of the surgical service and other administrative departments to insure adherence to procedures, protocols and proper uniformity within the service.
- Serves as backup timekeeper for the service updates leave calendar and informs, Chief, Section Chiefs and AO/HSS of leave requests.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, .
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Practical knowledge of standard procedures in a technical field, requiring extended training or experience, to perform such work as adapting equipment when this requires consideration of the functioning characteristics of equipment; interpreting results of tests based on previous experience and observations; or extracting information from various sources when this requires considering the applicability of information and the characteristics and quality of the sources.
