About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to act as site Radiation Safety Officer and manage Wright-Patterson Medical Center's Medical Health Physics and Radiation Safety programs in compliance with all federal, state regulations.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Manage all aspects of the hospital radiation safety program.
Provide subject matter expertise in health physics to clinical staff.
Use health physics expertise to support the safety and development of DoD personnel.
Perform patient radiation dose evaluations.
Perform/coordinate equipment evaluations on x-ray equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Occasional travel up to 10 percent may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Must obtain and maintain the requirements as set forth by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to operate and be listed as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) on a medical radioactive materials permit per 10 CFR 35.50

1. Select the one statement that best describes the education that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of Health Physicist at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service.
A. I have a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
B. I have a combination of education and experience which includes courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
C. I have a certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification and transcripts.)
D. I do not possess the education described above.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes : One year of specialized experience which includes performing health physics and radiation safety operations within a hospital/clinical setting; utilizing safety guidelines/regulations to handle and dispose of radioactive materials and/or control and prevent ionizing radiation hazards; performing quality control measures on medical equipment for compliance with radiation safety standards; providing instructions to patients on radiation safety. . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
