About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Regional Technical Expert and Northwestern Division (NWD) asset but, located in Kansas City. Duties
Serves as a NWD technical expert and authority for industrial hygiene involving hazardous or toxic materials.
Develops, and updates procedures, instructions, regulations, and guidance for NWD.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the contractor?s safety and occupational health program through the review and acceptance of documents (contracts, scope of work, Accident Prevention Plans, Activity Hazard Analysis etc.) and site evaluations.
Functions as the NWD technical lead for industrial hygiene/occupational health regulatory and technical requirements for the program, asbestos and lead-based paint.
Participates in developing and conducting courses of instruction for both employees within and outside NWD.

- TDY travel is required up to 40% of the work time.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as the entry requirement requires completion of education or a combination of education and experience sufficient to be comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a four year course of study with a major in the professional or scientific field. OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized Experience for the GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing industrial hygiene investigations or surveys and collecting environmental samples using a variety of sampling equipment and techniques to make recommendations on reducing and/or eliminating occupational health hazards. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
