The Office of the Inspector General is one of the best places to work in the Department of Justice and is one of the premier inspector general offices in federal government. The Management and Planning Division (M&P) advises and supports the OIG in the following areas: administrative and fiscal policy, executive resources, training, finance, quality assurance, procurement, facilities, human resources, security, records management, and diversity and inclusion.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- You must be able to pass a background investigation and credit check and drug testing. You will be subject to random drug testing.
- You must be registered for the Selective Service, if applicable.
- You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Your application package must support your responses to the questionnaire.
- You will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week during the school year.
- If selected you must complete and sign a Pathways Participant Agreement and will be required to provide the OIG Pathways Program Officer with a copy of your transcript verifying continuous enrollment, GPA and grade requirements each semester.
- You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better for the duration of this internship (failure to meet this requirement will result in immediate termination).
- The student will participate in an OIG-wide mentorship program.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis.
Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better (must provide a transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter); these standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship.
Must maintain enrollment/continue education throughout the duration of employment under the Pathways Program.
Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications stated above, you must also meet the minimum qualifications for the appropriate grade level, or applicable general or specialized experience, or a combination of both.
To qualify for the GS-4 level, you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school education or an Associate Degree (one year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in a college or university; or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school).
General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of General Office and Administrative Support Intern. Examples of general experience include: filing materials in alphabetical or chronological order; operating a copier machine; collating and stapling materials; producing a variety of written documents utilizing various word processing software functions; securing information from files and related sources.
To qualify for the GS-5 level, you must have completed 4 academic years of post-high school education leading to a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent degree.
Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical office support work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness; typing and formatting correspondence and forms; obtaining information from files or general reference sources; taking messages and scheduling appointments; performing routine administrative functions.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
