This position is located at the Fort Belknap Service Unit in Harlem, MT. The purpose of this position is to post payments and perform account receivable adjustments. The incumbent will report to the Business Office Supervisor or designee.
Duties
Perform work consisting of examination of accuracy, adequacy of documentation or citation, compliance with regulations, and justification of claims and other requests for payment for (1) services provided by the Government (2) reimbursement of expenditures made by beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries for such purposes as medical care and treatment.
Review delinquent patient account records, follow up with responsible parties via telephone and correspondence according to organization policy and procedures.
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation and recapitulation of third party billing to assure that collections, billed data, and the computerized and manual reports are in balance.
Perform third party collection posting to the automated accounts receivable program.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
GS-04: One (1) year of general experience OR Two (2) years above high school.
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level OR Four (4) years above high school.
GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
General Experience
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level
Maintain accounts by reviewing documents to verify accounting data as necessary and entering data into the system. Reconcile accounts comparing account balances with related data to assure agreement; Reviewing records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies; and determining the entries required to bring the account to balance.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level
Prepare reports reflecting the examination made, discrepancies noted and corrective entries required to adjust accounts; Maintain the automated accounts receivable ledger associated with third party payer claims; Responsible for associated records and/or documentation; Review and reconcile all third party payer documents for correct data on all third party vouchers for accurate claims number.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
