This position is located at the Fort Belknap Service Unit in Harlem, MT. The purpose of this position is to generate third party alternate resource claims, track insurance claims and payments. The incument reports to the Business Office Supervisor or designee.
Duties
Instruct employees in specific tasks, job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
Review system generated reports daily to identify claims that are ready for billing.
Responsible for automated transmission of all third party claims in a timely manner.
Correct all rejected/suspended claims previously submitted to third party payers, intermediaries and patients according to hospital policy and procedures.
Provide technical assistance with processing and maintaining CPT coding, abstraction of the complete chart and compliance enforcement of all regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
GS-08: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
General Experience
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-08 grade level
Distribute and monitor work assignments given to assure deadlines are met; Provide monthly reports to the supervisor regarding bills, claims, collections or pending items; Responsible for unpaid claims by the third party payer, including denials and appeals; Identify and correct inconsistencies or discrepancies; Search and abstract all CPT coding; and answer inquiries regarding claims processing and coding issues.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
