About the position: This position will be assigned to the Resource Management Office, Air Force Academy, Colorado. This position does include benefits.

Duties

Work involves the management of the 3 following IT areas: System Administration, Network Services and Network Security. Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the FSS information systems, ensuring that local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Plans, accepts, amends or rejects work for subordinates. Reviews organization mission, functions, and manning. Identifies requirements and initiates request for additional resources including personnel, overtime, equipment, supplies, and space to ensure success in meeting goals and objectives. Provides advice to superiors on significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment. Establishes metrics and analysis systems to ensure actions are timely and reviewed at critical points. Performs work on the SIPRNET when required. Assesses and revises policies and procedures as needed to find ways to improve quality, timeliness and efficiency of work. Analyzes processes, problem activities, and system designs of the FSS activities to comply with legal and regulatory requirements while meeting customer needs. Plans, coordinates and installs applications software and hardware for a multitude of operation and point-of-sales systems (Aloha, Qubica, RecTrac et al). Optimizes the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems and ensures availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of services. Provides on-going optimization and problem solving support; continually surveys system operation to identify potential systems problems which could lead to loss or serious interruption of service. Initiates corrective or preventative measures to rectify immediate problems and prevent future occurrences. Troubleshoots and diagnoses system failures to isolate source of problems. Performs testing, troubleshoots, and corrects problems relative to interface and interoperability of system components such as hardware, systems software, and applications programs. Provides proactive consultation, recommendations, and documentation to systems users to ensure seamless implementation of changes. Provides customer technical assistance support and conducts feasibility studies to analyzed LAN failures. Determines network requirements for activities and assists users by recognizing and analyzing trends, providing guidance and orientation services. Serves as a Limited Purebred Agent. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have extensive work experience which has provided a thorough knowledge and skill in applying techniques for analyzing and evaluating system software and hardware requirements to include but not limited to: computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; database administration; network and security; data content and output options for a variety of administrative and technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions of staff of a small to medium-sized organization. Knowledge of FSS operational responsibilities and requirements. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems. Knowledge of software design principles methods and approaches applicable to USAFA. Knowledge of system software and systems development life cycles, including systems documentation, design development, configuration management, cost analysis, systems integration and testing. Knowledge of IT applications, software concepts, principles methods and practices. Ability to analyze organizational application software requirements, develop supportable recommendations for enhancement and replacement. Knowledge of network customer use and systems maintenance sufficient to give needed guidance or training to customers and workgroup managers to identify and prevent problem recurrences. Skill in the use and maintenance of WAN/LAN, computer systems, equipment, and software. Experience in analyzing computer network, software, and hardware problems and development of effective and economical solutions. Experience with DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques is desirable. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator certification is highly desirable. Must have the ability to train users. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. This position may be required to work other than normal duty hours and may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to bend and stoop to install equipment. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical is required. This position requires the incumbent to satisfactory complete a T3 background investigation.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
