This position, located within the Health Administrative Service Line at the VA Butler Healthcare in Butler, Pennsylvania, is responsible for a wide range of assignments and provides administrative support to the section.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Interviewing patients applying for medical benefits. Entering demographic, insurance, and income information into the Web-based Enrollment System and VistA System. Performing accurate and complete data collection. Verifying eligibility/entitlement for benefits of all applicants using various methods including income assessments, military discharge documents, computer hospital inquiry (HINQ) and other means, such as communications with VA Regional Office or VA Records Processing Centers. Advising the veterans of their entitlement to various medical benefits and discusses co?payment requirements of veterans in discretionary categories. Providing exceptional customer service by exceeding the customer's expectations. Assisting veterans by getting a Primary Care Assignment using the electronic wait list or special mail group set up to make assignments. Monitoring enrolled patient data base information on a regular basis (at a minimum, annually) to perform updates to health insurance data, income assessments for the Means Test and Pharmacy Co-pay Exemption programs as mandated by law. Providing enrollment and eligibility information through outreaches, flu clinics and public interest activities. Providing enrollment and eligibility training to clinical and other administrative staff to assist them in the care and treatment of the Veteran. Providing training to new employees or on new programs. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, applicants must meet at least one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Health Benefits Assistant, GS-05. Specialized experience includes interviewing patients to verify eligibility or entitlements for benefits; advising patients of their entitlements to various medical benefits; and using automated systems for data entry, running reports and record keeping. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. -OR- EDUCATION: Have successfully completed four (4) years above high school in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- COMBINATION: Have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
