This position will be filled by reassignment only.
The principal function of the position is to provide technical assistance to the Branch Chief by reviewing a sample of the work products of the branch. This will enable the Branch Chief to devote more time to managerial duties.

Duties
Performs a sample review, using appropriate sampling techniques, of analysts' final action documents and recommendations to: deny or grant requests for review; review cases on own motion; remand; issue dismissal orders or Appeals Council decisions.
The incumbent may also perform a sample review of analysts' recommended actions on new court cases, RVRs, court remands, and ALJs decisions issued after court remand.
Advises the Branch Chief whether reviewed action documents/ recommendations are technically correct, conclusively sound, legally sufficient and contain complete supporting rationale.
Advises the Branch Chief of specific trends or deficiencies noted. Analyzes court trend data and identifies areas in which policies or regulations need to be developed and/or clarified, and makes appropriate recommendations to the Branch Chief.

Qualifications
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes reviewing and analyzing highly complex and technical administrative and/or judicial appeals from claims arising under Titles II, XI, XVI, and/or XVIII of the Social Security Act, as amended, in order to arrive at technically sufficient and legally sound conclusions.
No ranking criteria is used. Applicants must currently hold a permanent GS-13 or higher position. All qualified applicants will be submitted for reassignment consideration.
