A Lock and Dam Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of locks and dams, which are hydraulic structures built to manage water flow and navigation of vessels in rivers and other waterways. Locks and dams enable water transportation and facilitate interstate commerce, provide recreational opportunities, and prevent floods by controlling the water level. A Lock and Dam Operator typically works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or a similar organization and is responsible for operating the lock systems, monitoring water levels and equipment, and maintaining the lock infrastructure.
