This position is located in the Administrative Services Branch, Business Office at Four Corners Regional Health Center, Red Mesa, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to perform dual functions in Patient Registration, Patient Benefits Coordinator duties, identifying patients with eligibility for alternate resources, admission processes and updating pertinent demographic information. Incumbent reports to Supervisory Health System Specialist.
Duties
Interview patients for potential eligibility for services and to obtain registration information relating to alternate resources.
Communicates to Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record and authorization to enable the Business Office to bill for health care services provided from all Alternate Resources, including the non-beneficiary services
Determine the eligibility of patients seeking health care services.
Identify, verify, and assist in contacting various Federal. State, and County agencies for eligibility.
Assists patients in completing new or updated forms of the Patient Registration System. Obtains and verifies the health records and the Patient Registration System for Medicaid, Medicare and Private/Commercial Insurance eligibility for all patients seen prior to all clinic visits
Assures and/or initiates timely entry of AHCCCS and Medicare information to augment outpatient billing efforts and to enhance access to health services or other medical specialty care.

Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements:
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector OR four years of education above high school.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
Minimum Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05 Grade level:
One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples of Specialized Experience: Provided written and oral communication to the public on insurance information; assisted patients and medical staff in completing forms, verified patient eligibility for benefits, e.g., dependent or active identification card, date of birth, certificate of service, etc.; apply standardized rules, processes and Procedures concerning claims processing; basic arithmetic sufficient to review claims and correct amounts of allowable items.
Education: 4 years of education above the high school level. NOTE: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-05 grade level.
GS-06 Grade Level:
One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples of Specialized Experience: interviewed patients or their representatives to identify problems relating to care; explained policies, procedures, or services to patients using medical or administrative knowledge; and/or refer patients to appropriate health care services. Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
