You will serve as a SECURITY SPECIALIST in the Regional Force Protection, COMNAVREG, San Deigo of COMNAVREGSW SDIEGO.

Duties

You will brief employees to explain access to classified information. You will conduct security assessments to determine root causes of problems. You will develop and administer a contingency plan for Information Security which includes safeguarding classified material, emergency destruction, or reporting of emergency destruction. You will perform required security evaluations of command personnel to determine individual security consciousness and any changes in their behavior or personal activities You will create plans for implementing Industrial Security procedures. You will write reports on findings from security inspections and recommendations for corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Develops written security procedures concerning the maintenance, handling, storage, transmission, and protection of classified information; 2) Reviews requests for release of classified information to foreign governments; 3) Prepare threat analysis reports, surveys and other security evaluations with recommended course of correction action for review; 4) Ensures threats to security, compromises, and other violations are reported, recorded, and when necessary, investigated vigorously; and 5) Conducts security audits, inspections, and surveys to ensure compliance with procedural accounting. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.M., if related
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience

Substitution of Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Education must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Physical Demands:

The work is sedentary in nature, but may involve some prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, carrying of papers and books, and driving an automobile. Otherwise, no special physical demands are required to perform work assignments.

Work Environment:

The work involves everyday risks and discomforts, which require normal safety precautions and are typical of office setting, meeting rooms, training/conference rooms, libraries, and commercial, or government vehicles. The work areas are normally equipped with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation.
